Birthmother Ministries

Friend:  being a friend/mentor to a pregnant woman in crisis.  This ministry assists all women, whether they choose to parent their child or are considering adoption, regardless of their marital or financial status, age and religious beliefs.

What does a Friend do?
  • Provides friendship.
  • Walks with a pregnantwoman throughout their pregnancy and gives her non-judgmental, loving, emotional and if the pregnant woman wishes, spiritual support.
  • Helps the pregnant woman find practical resources within the community as needed (a resource directory is provided at initial Friend Training).

Pre-Requisites
  • Completion of Summit Class #1 before you are able to be matched with a birthmom (initial training can be taken before Summit Class #1 completed).
  • Attendance of an initial five hour training before being matched.
  • Sign a pledge that:
Acknowledges you are a Christian; and
that abortion will not be presented as an option, adoption as a viable alternative, and a promise of emotional support to the Birthmom whether she chooses to parent her child or place her child for adoption, as it is her choice.
  • Training manual provided - $10.00 donation to Timberline Church is requested.
  • Agreement to background  and DMV check to be completed by Timberline Church

Time Commitment
  • Is based on need of the birthmom and desire of the Friend –relationship and time spent is negotiated between the two of them.  You may meet whenever and wherever you wish with her in neutral locations (highly suggested), in your home or hers (after trust has been established with you) A good rule of thumb is physically meeting with her about once a week.
  • Keep short records (discussed at initial Friend training).
  • Provide feedback via email or phone 1X monthly regarding how your relationship with Birthmom is progressing.

Team Meetings
A commitment of Friends Meeting provided (1 x monthly) on Thursday nights to encourage, pray with other Friends and further training.

What is Birthmothers?
Birthmothers, also called Birthmother Ministries, is a Christian organization, based in Virginia, that is newer to Larimer County in Northern Colorado.

Birthmothers trains and background checks women from local churches and matches them in a one-on-one friendship with pregnant women in need. Once matched, the pregnant woman and Friend meet when and where they mutually agree upon, such as a coffee shop, fast food location, a park or in each others’ homes.

This one-on-one friendship is meant to provide the emotional support that some women need, as well as connection to community resources, and if the pregnant woman wishes, spiritual encouragement as well. It does not matter what path the woman has chosen for her pregnancy and there is no cost for the program. We are privileged to serve all women regardless of race, age, marital, financial status or religious beliefs.

What makes Birthmothers unique?
A pregnant woman may be connected with wonderful, professional organizations and community resources for physical and professional needs, but some women benefit by the additional connection of a volunteer Friend for emotional support and friendship.

How can I get involved?
Call Lorraine Meyer at 481-4787 or email to coloradobirthmothers@gmail.com to be put on the interest list for the next Friend Training Day or with any questions you have.
